Yakima Valley College will host the annual Famous Black Box Poetry Slam in the Parker Room on the Yakima Campus March 3.

The doors will open up for sign up at 6 p.m. if you want to perform, and the event for the public will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Admission is $2 cash, which becomes the prize pot for the top three artists and all forms of spoken word are welcome.

Slam Performers are expected to have 3-5 poems/spoken word pieces prepared.

YVC English Instructor and Long-time Event Organizer Mark Fuzie says “The Slam has always been a way to connect our campus poetry community with the Yakima Valley poets,Spoken word brings out a different kind of diversity.

"Hip-hop artists show up, rap, rhyming and improv, social justice artists are there. I never know what kind of show we're going to have which is why it is one of my favorite poetry events in Yakima. Plus the winner gets a small pile of cash,” he concluded
