Veterans Day is Wednesday (Nov. 11).This is a fantastic day and my favorite holiday. It is to remind Americans who has kept us free all of these years. This will always be my favorite holiday. If it were not for our veterans, we certainly would not have any of our other holidays.

On this day we honor those who have fought, are fighting, have died or been killed in action! Thank you for your service. You are the reason why we can walk free in this great nation!

We love you, veterans! Men and women!

World War I – known at the time as “The Great War” - officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed on June 28, 1919, in the Palace of Versailles outside the town of Versailles, France. However, fighting ceased seven months earlier when an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, between the Allied nations and Germany went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. For that reason, November 11, 1918, is generally regarded as the end of “the war to end all wars.”

And don't forget Wednesday's Veterans Day Parade in Yakima. The parade starts at 10:45 a.m. at Sixth Street and Yakima Avenue, then proceeds west on Yakima Avenue to Sixth Avenue. City officials expect 100 entries in the parade.

The city warns that cars parked along the parade route between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. are subject to being towed at their owner's expense.

Please join us Wednesday to remember our vets! Never forget why we are free!
