That's some great tasting water. That's what many people are saying about the city of Yakima's water quality. In fact judges in a recent water drinking contest agree. It's why the city of Yakima is the winner of the 2023 Central Washington Best Tasting Water contest.

THE CITY WAS UP AGAINST SOME TOUGH COMPETITION

The city was recently involved in the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Central Washington Subsection competition held on March 14. The city of Yakima had some stiff competition. Entries for Best Tasting Water were submitted by the cities of Yakima, Walla Walla, Richland, Pasco as well as the Nob Hill Water Association.

THE CITY IS GOING FOR ANOTHER AWARD SOON

“Every entry had incredible clearness, quality, taste and smell which made judging very difficult,” Yakima County Commissioner Amanda McKinney says in a social media post. “Thank you to all of the folks who work hard every day to ensure these municipal supplies are consistently healthy for their residents.”
With that win the city is moving forward hoping to garner more praise and more awards for city water. The water now advances to the American Water Works Association Section contest in May, which will be held in Kennewick.

CITY OFFICIALS SAY THEY AIM TO BE AWARD WINNERS WITH WATER

“This was a great job by all our dedicated employees,” say Interim Water/Irrigation Manager Mike Shane. “They work hard to make sure we are providing safe, high-quality and great tasting drinking water to our customers.”
Water is a vital resource in the Yakima Valley not only to drink but to grow the many crops that keep growers busy during the spring and summer months.
