Expecting parents are always on the lookout for everything to go smoothly with the baby's delivery.

This was the case with the parents of little sweet Lennon.

When Lennon was born at the Family Birthplace at MultiCare Memorial Hospital two years ago, she was struggling to breathe. Her oxygen levels were quickly falling, and so was her body temperature.

Nurses immediately put Lennon inside an incubator (similar to the one shown below) and they rushed her to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which was one floor down from the birthing rooms.

Lennon's parents credit the nurses and specialized pediatric doctors with saving her life!

They quickly used the hospital's neonatal equipment to take chest x-rays of Lennon, and they placed her under a heat lamp, and gave her an IV drip.

The doctors also used a tiny CPAP, akin to the one shown below, to help Baby Lennon be able to breathe better.

Using NICU incubators and infant CPAPs can increase family costs for medical care by the thousands. These life-saving services can sometimes be unaffordable for families and the Memorial Foundation is keenly aware of each of these types of instances.

The Memorial Foundation in Yakima secures private funding from local sponsors to help fill the void for families who can't afford things like transportation to and from hospitals and doctor visits. They also assist with requests for financial assistance for other urgent needs for babies and children, like the cost of related therapies and treatments.

Another way the Memorial Foundation secures additional funding for thousands of families in Central Washington is through the Children's Miracle Network Radiothon.

Local small businesses and regular people like you and me continue to give generous monetary donations year after year during the annual radiothon.

This year, tune in to 1280 NewsTalk KIT AM for the CMN Radiothon in October!
