***SEE UPDATE BELOW***

We've heard the horror stories about trick-or-treating consequences.

So much so that it's actually turned into a joke in recent years.

Be careful and check your children's Halloween candy; someone could have put a razor blade in a Snickers or a handgun inside a Butterfinger.

My dad once had to 'dispose' of all my Reese's peanut butter cups because they were all "tainted." All the rest of the candy was fine, though.

Well, it looks like an accident that we've warned about (and joked about) actually happened.

According to a Reddit post in the Tri-Cities of Washington section, apparently, someone was given Nerds Gummy Clusters. But just not ordinary Nerds candy; these were 'Medicated.'

Posted on Reddit, a picture of 'Medicated Nerds Gummy Clusters' with the caption reads:

"Our neighbor's son is in the hospital after receiving a tainted Nerds Cluster bag while trick or treating. It contained over 600 mg of THC. We live in the meadows of the East area off of Gage."

The candy is an official candy sold in marijuana shops that is under the Nerds name brand.

If the account is true, that is a horrible thing to happen to a kid and a parent.

Was it an act of maliciousness? Only the person giving out candy knows for sure, but a majority of comments on Reddit are leaning towards it being handed out on accident.

"I seriously doubt some stoner spent good money on edibles and then purposely gave them to a kid. They look so much like an actual package of nerds, though I could see them accidentally being given away by someone who didn't realize it said "medicated' on the bag." – Reddit user: gknick

What are your thoughts:

Accidental handout in trick or treating?

Malicious trickster handing out edibles to unsuspecting kids?

Or, as some users suggest, the child got into their parent's private stash, and the parents are passing the blame?

***UPDATE ON MEDICATED NERDS AND CHILD!***

Sherry from Granger messaged our app saying how she is the great aunt of the child that got the medicated nerds candy at Halloween.

She informed us that it was not a family member's private stash, and they're unsure if it was accident or not, but that the little one did go to the hospital and is doing better, but not 100% yet.

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for the child.
