‘Polkamania!’ Has Hit Yakima, With A New ‘Weird Al’ Tune!
No one can ever say he's not a man of his word!
The 'Weird One' himself, Mr. Al Yankovic, posted on his social media earlier this week that he'd be dropping a new song today (Friday, July 19th, 2024), and he did not let us know!
When it comes to the great "Weird Al" Yankovic, his music can be divided into four categories.
Parodies (which he is best known for).
Style Parodies (an original song of his, done in another band's style).
Original Songs (which are fantastic, and he doesn't get nearly as much credit for as he deserves).
Polkas! (you know what those are).
Al's polkas sample other artists' music to the beat and tune of traditional polkas!
That was the bomb he dropped on the world today! A new song called 'Polkamania!'
The new song samples hits from Miley Cyrus, Adele, Billie Eilish, Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and many others.
One song that caught me off guard was his inclusion of Megan Thee Stallion's W.A.P., a song Al has talked about in interviews.
While Al hasn't released much music or full albums in the past 10 years (not counting the biopic soundtrack for 'Weird: The Al Yankovic Story'), he's been busy touring.
To the best of my memory, the last time he was in the PNW was back in 2022 (check out that footage from that concert here).
In an interview with Billboard Magazine, Al says he hopes this Polka will help scratch an itch for long-time fans. And that it has! Check out the official video!
