Here comes more baseball!

Pacific Baseball Ventures, which owns the Yakima Valley Pippins and the Walla Sweets of the West Coast League, is hoping to promote local amateur programs by bringing in an out-of-town team for two exhibition games this summer.

The Mudville Nine, a youth team from the Seattle area, will play the Walla Walla Bears just before the Sweets' June 19 game with the Wenatchee AppleSox. The next night, Mudville Nine faces off with the Yakima Beetles at The Orchard, just before the Pippins' game against the Kelowna Falcons.

Ticket-holders for the WCL games can get into the amateur games for free -- and anyone who buys a ticket to the amateur game get into that night's WCL game for free. Both amateur games will start at 1:05 p.m.

“We are excited to be able to use the resources in our stadiums to help create a big-time experience for these players from our communities,” Pacific Baseball Ventures president Zachary Fraser said in Tuesday (May 19) news release. “Many of these young men will go on to play college baseball, so you may be seeing future WCL stars on our fields this particular weekend.”

Meantime, the Pippins -- the 2014 East Division champions -- are busy preparing for their second WCL season. The opener is June 5, and season tickets are on sale in the team's new downtown Yakima offices, 12 S. Second St.

The team reminds fans that Pippins gear is available at the office or online at www.pippinsbaseball.com. Call 509-575-HITS (4487) or email info@pippinsbaseball.com for more information on tickets, retail goods, or becoming a host family for a player this summer.
