I've been a comic fan since I was a kid and we are living in a crazy age where technology has finally caught up to what can be published on a comic book page. X-Men in 2000 started the wave of newsprint to film explosion and with that a flood of comic book related movies. There have been some hits as Iron Man, Avengers and The Dark Knight followed by the bombs of Green Lantern, Jonah Hex and Elekt

A few weeks ago, this column was skeptical that Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' could reach $300 million. Now, it seems impossible that it won't. Thanks to ecstatic word of mouth, killer marketing and only one genuinely successful box office challenger (that would be 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'), Marvel's oddball space opera has managed to spend three of the past four weekends at the number one spot at the box office, giving it enough momentum to officially become the highest grossing film of 2014.

I had HIGH HOPES for DC Comic's Green Lantern but as with all movies, you take a risk to bring the heroes to the big screen...here is the weekend's movie rundown thanks to Yahoo movies...

'Thor' continued to show its strength at the box office this weekend. The Marvel superhero flick, starring breakout hunk Chris Hemsworth, took in an estimated $34.5 million, bringing its 10-day total to $119.3 million. Overall, 'Thor' was down 48 percent from last weekend, according to EW.com.
