The Yakama Nation begins its commemoration of the Treaty of 1855 with a parade on Friday and a pow wow out in White Swan. Everyone is invited to join the festivities.
On Monday (June 5) the Yakama Nation kicked off its Treaty Days commemoration week with the Miss Yakama Nation Pageant. This is where the current Yakama Nation royalty spoke about their reign -- from Miss Yakama Nation, Chrissy Jim, all the way down to Lil' Miss Yakama Nation Treaty Days Princess, Tehy LoveAnn. The pageant also included the introduction of the candidates vying for whichever title
On the weekend of June 10-12, the Yakama Nation commemorated the Treaty of 1855. A brief history note: The treaty was signed on June 9, 1855. The tribe is the biggest reservation in Central Washington, with 11,000-plus enrolled members and situated on 1.1 million acres. The weekend kicked off with a parade in Toppenish and a softball tournament. The Pow Wow was in White Swan.
