Although Ashanti's upcoming LP is titled 'Braveheart,' she sings of a broken heart on the pop ballad 'Never Should Have.' The songbird gives an emotional performance on the song, which is quite different from her previous radio-friendly hits.

Produced by Mansur, 'Never Should Have' could do well on pop radio if given a chance. The bombastic drums give the song an almost anthemic feel. We also can't help but feel that the song has some connection to her break-up with ex-boyfriend Nelly.

"You were all that I wanted / I fell in love with you 'cause you loved me and I thought you were ready," 'Shanti croons on the bridge. Oh, hell has no fury like a woman scorned.

Ashanti is currently prepping a video for the song which, reportedly, will be directed by Sanji Senaka, who's helmed clips for Mary J. Blige and David Guetta.

Ashanti plans to drop 'Braveheart' independently through her Written Entertainment label. The collection boasts guest appearances from Busta Rhymes, Keyshia Cole, Meek Mill and French Montana, along with production assists from Rico Love, Cool & Dre, Danja, Darkchild and Tank.
