Cronuts are the newest thing in New York. The actual 'cronut' is trademarked, but there are plenty of knock-off Croissant / Doughnuts out there. The original are hard to come by, with lines wrapping around the block or people buying them at $40 a pop. Completely insane! Fortunately, you can easily make your own at home using a few simple ingredients.

pre-made crescent rolls (two canisters)
Enough oil to deep fry (and a pot to fry in)

Here's what I do.

Lay out the crescent rolls, one on top of the other, and press them down a little just to make sure they're stuck together. Cut circles out of them. If you have a donut cutter or something that works as such, go for it. Make sure you cut the hole in the middle as well for even cooking.

Pop your donuts into the hot oil. It should about 325 degrees - medium hot on the stove. When they're done on one side (just only take a few minutes) flip them over and cook the other side.

Top however you want to top them. I'd recommend Nutella, but I recommend Nutella for everything. You can also use cinnamon and sugar, powdered sugar or anything you want. Maybe try strawberries and whipped cream - that may be good.

Give it a shot and tell me what you think!
