Spring forward, fall back

This weekend is the time we set our clocks back an hour. That means it'll get dark earlier, but it also means we regain the hour we lost when Daylight Saving Time began back in the spring. Here are a few things to consider doing with that extra hour.

An Extra Hour of Sleep
The issue is that Daylight Saving Time is always on a Sunday (clocks officially go back at 2 a.m.), so unless you have church early in the morning, you can sleep in as long as you want. I have children, however, so no matter what time I get to bed, they'll still wake up early. Hopefully, this Sunday, I can get that extra bit of sleep.

An Extra Hour at the Buffet
We have plenty of all-you-can-eat buffets in Yakima. Maybe this Sunday I'll make it a point to hang out longer than I normally would to maximize my value. My secret? I'm always hungry.

An Extra Hour of [insert streaming on-demand show here]
I don't watch much TV anymore, but when I do, I watch several episodes at a time. Shows like "Sherlock," "Once Upon a Time" and many others must be consumed in large amounts. That extra hour can mean an extra episode or two.

An Extra Hour of Baking
I love spending time in the kitchen. I don't spend as much time as I'd like because the kids need help with their homework, I have laundry to do or I'm just too lazy to make something. That extra hour can mean I can take advantage of my time in the kitchen and really make something great. Maybe a cake made from scratch is in order.

An Extra Hour of 'Not Getting Up'
I know I already said "extra hour of sleep," but this is different. This is when you wake up at your usual time, but probably an hour earlier since the clock is set back an hour. Don't bother getting up. Just stay in bed. Play on your phone, turn on the TV if you have one in your bedroom, read a book, do whatever you want -- just don't get out of bed for an hour. You deserve it!

I'm sure you already have your plans this weekend. Daylight Saving Time is also when they remind you to change your smoke-detector batteries. I knew someone who also used to change his remote control batteries on the same day, just to get it done.

Either way, set your clock back an hour this Sunday morning.
