I like looking at the snow, but don't like just about everything else about it. I apologize to my skiing and snowboarding friends, but I was done with the snow the day after Christmas. Once the snow melts, here are a few things I can do again that I totally take for granted when there isn't snow.

  • Drive. Drive Anywhere

Snow and ice on roadways is bad news. When time allows, my wife and I will take the kids and drive to Tri-Cities or Seattle for no good reason -- just to get out of town. I don't want to do that right now because of road conditions. When the snow melts, we're taking a day trip somewhere.

  • Park In my Favorite Spot

I have a specific parking spot I like to park in. I can't park there right now because that's where all the extra snow was being shoveled when they plowed our parking lot. I'm looking forward to parking there again.

  • Go To the Park

The other kind of park. There's nothing stopping up from going to the park to play, but the equipment is too cold or still has snow and ice on it. Sure, it's fun for a little while, but then my kids complain how cold they are and it turns into a process of coming home, hopping in a warm bath and all that. I'm looking forward to just going to the park without having to do all that.

  • Not Stomp my Feet Before Entering

I get snow on my shoes so, before I enter, I stomp the snow off. It's not 100 percent effective, but better than nothing. The shoes and boots at our front door make a nice puddle that I usually end up stepping in eventually. Looking forward to that not happening again.

  • Not changing my socks multiple times daily

There's a quote from Forrest Gump where Lt. Dan says, "I want you boys to remember to change your socks wherever we stop." He loved to keep his feet dry and no reason why not. When the snow gets into your shoes or boots, getting your feet all wet and soggy, it ruins your demeanor. I end up changing my socks after coming home and, depending on if I have to leave again, I might again later that night. I'm done with laundry.
