Last month, when Nicki Minaj made those now infamous comments at the 2014 BET Awards about other artists failing to write their own material, many thought she was taking a dig at Iggy Azalea. The ‘Fancy’ rapper’s boyfriend, Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young, reveals that the comments actually offended her despite talk of the opposite.

“I had to deal with the aftermath of all that,” he told the NY Daily News. “When [Iggy] came home and was going through her phones, hearing everybody talking trash about her. I had to be there for her.”

In addition, Young said he always tries to take Iggy’s mind off the drama of the music industry by doing everyday things with her, like hitting up an amusement park.

“We always hang out and try to get her mind off what is going on out there on the news,” he explained. “We go roller-skating, to theme parks and Six Flags, and try to have a good time and do down-to-earth stuff. “We have sweats on, hoodies on at Six Flags, just us two, and you will never know [it's us].”

The NBA star also tries to keep things in proper perspective when it comes to Iggy’s current level of success, and he knows that receiving backlash is part of the game.

“Iggy is doing big things and that is what is scaring people,” Young stated. “She is going to brush it off. She won’t let it get to her. She is No. 1, what can you do? She’s at the top right now, so of course they are going to come at you.”
