The day started out bright and sunny. I even wore my shorts and everything. But in the 5 o'clock hour a federal Emergency Alert System warning jolted people in south-central Washington: flash floods were coming! I didn't think anything of it because I didn't think it was going to rain in Yakima. Boy, was I wrong!

We had fun watching the rain dump everywhere with rumblings of thunder and a few lightning visuals. It was a little scary, but I felt pretty safe where I was. We had a quick power surge, but not too bad where we were.

Other people were posting that their city streets and porches basically looked like small ponds.

If nothing else, it's downpours like this that make for good reminders to be prepared, just in case.
