• U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell questioned a top rail industry executive whether railroads are investing enough in infrastructure as increasing delays in freight rail traffic have impacted shipments of goods nationwide, and recently forced a Washington state agriculture shipper to suspend service and cut jobs.

    Cantwell referenced companies such as Cold Train, an intermodal agriculture shipper in Quincy, Washington that announced it was suspending rail service due to increasing delays on rail lines and a near-doubling of transit times.

  • More than 90 percent of U.S. children eat more than the recommended amount of sodium, according to a new CDC report.

    The report says children aged 6-18 years old who consume too much sodium are putting themselves at risk for developing high blood pressure and heart disease later in life.

    CDC researchers determined 43 percent of sodium consumed by children comes from the 10 foods they eat most often: pizza, bread and rolls, cold cuts/cured meats, savory snacks, sandwiches, cheese, chicken patties or nuggets, pasta, Mexican dishes, and soups.
