After dating for about two years, pocket-sized couple Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough have called it quits. And once again, PR people trotted out their most well-worn talking point: The couple's busy professional schedules just left them no time for each other.

E!, where Ryan is an on-air personality and producer (we're still trying to forgive him for unleashing 'Keeping Up With the Kardashians' on the world), broke the news late Friday night, March 15, saying simply, "They have amicably decided that they need time apart ... they are still in regular contact and remain friends."

A source for Us Weekly said, "Honestly, their schedules were too hectic. It just got to be too much. I think they both just sort of knew they couldn't do it anymore. The travel and lifestyle got to be too much. Who knows if this is just for now, but I think this is for good."

For once, the go-to excuse for celebrity breakups may have at least a glimmer of truth to it -- Seacrest, 38, really is one of the busiest guys in Hollywood. In addition to his work for E!, he hosts 'American Idol' and has a daily radio show, so the fact that he's been able to carve out time for a personal life at all is kind of miraculous.

As for Hough, the painfully cute 24-year-old blonde triple-threat has been pretty busy herself promoting her new movie, 'Safe Haven.' On top of that, the two-time 'Dancing With the Stars' champ is working with her brother Derek (also a 'DWTS' pro) on 'Blackpool,' a scripted drama about ballroom dance, for the Starz channel.

News of the breakup comes just days after Julianne had a root canal and then reportedly left $100,000 worth of jewelry -- all gifts from Ryan -- in an apparently unlocked car, only to find someone had helped themselves to the pricey baubles in her absence.

Blergh. And you think you had a bad week.
