Everyone knows Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year. But in recent years, the day after Black Friday has been dubbed "Small Business Saturday" -- a day you're encouraged to go out and shop at locally owned stores, eat at some locally owned establishments and keep the money in our community.

The idea is simple enough. All you have to do is do some shopping on Saturday, too, to support the local economy and local businesses that also hire locally. That way our hometowns grow and flourish.

I'm not saying you have to buy a car or a new bedroom set unless you need one. But even something as simple as getting breakfast at a local diner, getting that new CD at a local music store, getting a coffee at a local coffee stand, buying socks at a local clothing store or filling your fridge back up after Thanksgiving by going grocery shopping at a local grocery store would be fantastic.

If I could have it my way, every day would be Small Business Saturday because I try to support our local businesses as much as possible. This is one of those days when, if we all go out and pick up a little something, it'll make a huge impact.
