It’s been nearly 17 years since Bryan Singer’s X-Men movie ushered in a new era of superhero movies, and in that time, we’ve seen studios crank through actors with alarming frequency. We’ve seen three Spider-Man, a handful of Batmen, three Punishers across the big and small screens, and dozens of big-budget Marvel and DC movies break records at the box office. In the midst of all this chaos has been Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, the one actor-character combination that seemed immune to bad reviews and flagging box office numbers. And with Jackman set to take one final turn as Wolverine in Logan, the actor is taking a little time to stop and reflect on his impact in Hollywood.

Although The Wolverine 3 (or is it The Wolverine 2? There was only one The Wolverine, but it was the second Wolverine movie, god these titles are confusing), doesn’t have an officially announced title yet, most folks seem to expect the movie will be called some variation of Old Man Logan. Because, well, Hugh Jackman is getting old. All right, not that old. (He’s 47.) But supposedly this is grand farewell to the character that made him an international superstar. Old Man Logan (the name of a mini-series about a senior Wolverine living in a post-apocalyptic society) would make a fitting coda for his 17 years as the character.

The Wolverine 2 continues to build its mysterious — but very awesome — cast for Hugh Jackman’s final outing as the iconic X-Men character. The latest star looking to join the lineup is Elizabeth Rodriguez, best known for her roles on Orange Is the New Black and Fear the Walking Dead. Though her part is The Wolverine sequel is reportedly small, it’s said to be quite important.

While Hugh Jackman and Wolverine make only a very brief appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse, the Oscar-nominated actor and his popular mutant alter ego are returning for Wolverine 3, the upcoming sequel that will serve as Jackman’s last. From the Apocalypse press day in London, we have some new details on the film including that filming has now begun and that, as rumored, Wolverine 3 will be rated R..

With Deadpool, Fox successfully (like, really successfully — record-breaking-successfully) rebooted a character who had previously been horrifically adapted in another, lesser film, and they did so without recasting the role. Miracles do exist. Now that Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth has been given a second cinematic life, could the same be done with another actor from X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Liev Schreiber, perhaps?
