With studios vying to capitalize on nostalgia with reboots of beloved properties from your childhood, a live-action Pokemon movie was probably (definitely) inevitable. It’s one of the most popular franchises on the planet, with a series of animated shows and films, video games and toys. And soon it will become a live-action movie, as Legendary, Sony and Warner Bros. are locked in a bidding war over the rights to bring Pikachu & Co. back to the big screen.

If you were to ask me what my ideal life would be, I would unquestionably tell you that all I want is to solve a series of mysteries, each more fiendish than the last, alongside my faithful Pokemon friends. It is my fondest and most fervent wish, and now it's coming true. Sort of. In Japan. Despite the fact that I try to keep up on Pokemon news, I'd never heard of this, which you know because if I had, I wouldn't have been talking about anything else, but on February 3, Great Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo will be released on the Nintendo eShop for the 3DS. The game tells the story of a hard-boiled Pokemon detective in an adorable hat who runs around solving crimes with his human pal --- and you can watch the trailer for it right now!
