During the season of giving, it's a feeding grounds for many scammers to try and take advantage of your good nature. The Washington State Patrol has received several phone calls in the past few months from people saying they've had someone call them asking for money. Basic rule of thumb: If you think it's a scam, it probably is.

The WSP wants you to know that, although they do have a charity function, they will never call and solicit for donations, let alone ask for your credit card number over the phone.

You should never give such information such as credit card info, bank account numbers or anything of that nature over the phone.

The State Patrol advises you that if you get a call like that, hang up and contact WSP about your encounter.
