  • With the fourth round of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership talks concluded, U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman says there’s still a lot of work ahead.

Froman does believe there’s also a good understanding of the key issues that need to be resolved, however. He was generally pleased with the progress negotiators made in Brussels last week.

According to Froman, President Obama will discuss the T-TIP with the European Council President and European Commission President next week during their summit in Brussels.

  • A new Pew Research Center analysis of data from the United States Sentencing Commission shows a dramatic growth over the past two decades in the number of offenders sentenced in federal courts that has been driven primarily by enforcement of a particular immigration offense; unlawful reentry into the United States.

Between 1992 and 2012, the number of offenders sentenced in federal courts more than doubled. At the same time, the number of unlawful reentry convictions increased 28-fold, from 690 cases in 1992 to 19,463 in 2012.
