• USDA has unveiled highly anticipated new programs to help farmers better manage risk, ushering in one of the most significant reforms to U.S. farm programs in decades.

Ag Secretary Vilsack also announced that new tools are now available to help provide farmers the information they need to choose the new safety net program that is right for their business.

The new programs, Agricultural Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage, are cornerstones of the commodity farm safety net programs in the 2014 Farm Bill, legislation that ended direct payments.

  • Foster Farms is recalling approximately 40,000 pounds of frozen pre-cooked chicken products due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The frozen Chicken Breast Grilled Strips product was produced on Aug. 5, and then shipped from the company's plant in Farmerville, Louisiana, to retail warehouse locations in California, Texas, Utah, and Washington state.

There have not been any reports of illness from the product. Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon and potentially fatal disease.
