• USDA has announced $13 million in Farm Bill funding is now available for organic certification cost-share assistance.

This assistance will be distributed through the National Organic Certification Cost-Share Program and Agricultural Management Assistance Organic Certification Cost-Share Program.

The funding is provided through participating states to USDA certified organic producers and handlers for up to 75 percent of certification-related expenses they incur, up to $750 per certification, from Oct. 1, 2013 through Sept. 30, 2014.

  • The National Farmers Union has sent a letter to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy asking for more information about which bodies of water would be jurisdictional under the proposed Waters of the U.S. rule.

During a conference call between the NFU board of directors and McCarthy, NFU President Roger Johnson says the board asked for clarity surrounding some of the definitions in the proposal.

Many members feel the proposed rule has instead created less clarity.
