Bert’s Pub Closed Its Doors on Saturday. Will They Be Back?

One of my favorite places in town, Bert's Pub, located at Glenwood Square on Tieton, closed its doors on Saturday night. It was a place where you truly felt like family. I had to ask management why and if they have plans to reopen at a later date. Here's what they told me.

My wife and I were just chillin' on our couch, not doing anything of importance. That's when she decided to sign into Facebook and she let out a gasp. This wasn't your average gasp, mind you. This was the gasp that's usually reserved for the death of someone she knows or the dissolution of a favorite band. When I asked what happened, expecting the worst, I got the worst. Our favorite place to go eat, Bert's Pub, was open for the final day.

I'm glad she signed in or it would've been too late for us to have one last round.

There was a time when we didn't live in Yakima. Whenever we've come into to town to visit friends and family we'd always make it a point to stop by Bert's Pub at least once. After we moved here, you'd find us there at least once a month. Usually more.

The food was excellent, the atmosphere was awesome and the staff made you feel welcome. You couldn't ask for anything more, and didn't require it. It was everything I'd ever want in a pub.

Saddened by the final day, we hit it up one final time and were immediately greeted with hugs from Heidi, who seemed to practically live there. I was glad to see her out with the people and not waiting tables or behind the bar. She was enjoying herself on the final day - and well deserved.

I did ask what happened. Without going into details as I have no official word, the closing of Bert's Pub wasn't because of a lack of interest or lack of sales. I did ask if they would reopen. There's no official word on that, either, but they did say they had a 'Plan B.' It could be in the same location. It could be in a new location. That hasn't been decided yet, but don't look for the awesome staff at Bert's Pub to be down for the count.

In the meantime, though, yes, there are several great places in Yakima to get a cold drink and get great food. But, to me, there will never be a place like Bert's Pub. It goes on the list of favorite places in Yakima like Crazy Mike's Video, The Country Store, Tiger Mart and so many others that are gone, but not forgotten.
