I have a saying: "I don't have insurance for me, I have it because of all of the other drivers." Just about every day in Yakima there are traffic accidents of all kinds from fender benders to T-Bone car crashes. Here are my five easiest places to get into a traffic accident in Yakima.

  • 1st and Nob Hill

According to research done by KIMA, the intersection of 1st and Nob Hill has the highest number of traffic accidents compared to the rest. People are always in a rush and it doesn't help that heading east on Nob Hill the corner of 1st is right after the overpass so you can't quite see what you're getting in to until it's too late.

  • 16th and Nob Hill

Nob Hill probably has the most narrow divider lines of any main road in town so it's no surprise it's on the list twice. The corner of 16th and Nob Hill is home to the YVC campus. Maybe being late for school is the excuse or you need your Taco Bell or Taco Time fix (both across the street from Yakima Valley Community College). But this intersection sees it's fair share of accidents.

  • 1st and Mead

1st and Mead is right when the major shopping district of Union Gap kicks in. Valley Mall, Best Buy, Miner's Restaurant all down this way. A lot of daily traffic makes it a hot spot for traffic accidents.

  • Leaving the Westpark parking lot on to 40th

Specifically exiting where Royal Buffet and CoMotion Dance Studio are. The problem here is there's a giant wall blocking the street so it's not until you pull too far out that you can see traffic - and by that point you're already half way out into the road.

  • 26th and Bonnie Dunn

This intersection probably isn't on any official list, but it's on mine. I grew up on the corner of 26th and Bonnie Dunn and have seen more than my fair share of accidents. For a while, there, it seems like the stop sign on the corner would be up-roots and tossed aside. The main problem, I believe, is during the winter months the road heading south on 26th is on a hill and become very icy. Drivers learn they can't slow down in time for the stop sign at the bottom of the hill and by that time it's too late.
