Josh Hutcherson Keeps ‘The Hunger Games’ References to Opening Monologue on ‘SNL’ [VIDEO]

Josh Hutcherson kept ‘The Hunger Games‘ references to a minimum during his ‘SNL’ hosting stint last night (Nov. 23). In fact, his opening monologue was pretty much the major moment in which the film was referenced. But it was done so in epic fashion, with the cast re-enacting the plot.

Kate McKinnon was a brilliant Effie Trinket, who revealed that the cast of ‘SNL’ is compromised of such fans that they would have their own set of ‘Hunger Games.’ Meanwhile, Cecily Strong played Katniss Everdeen, explaining that she carries a bow and arrow around with her since it’s NYC before she accidentally kills Bobby Moynihan.

Kenan Thompson had a pimped out, walk-on moment, since he threw his keys in the bowl to get picked, but for an entirely different reason that had nothing to do with ‘The Hunger Games’ or being a tribute. But it was a wink-wink, nudge-nudge moment.

Hutcherson joked about his character Peeta getting injured and having to be carried around, so it was no shock when Strong’s high-five caused him enough of an injury where he had to be carried to the next skit.

It was an excellent way to get ‘The Hunger Games’ “stuff” outta the way, since ‘Catching Fire’ is in multiplexes this weekend and that’s the whole reason The Hutch was there.
