Greek food lovers in Seattle are devastated by the news that one of their favorite restaurants, Omega Ouzeri, is closing for good at the end of the month.

“Kalos irthate (Welcome)…Hanging up my apron…and moving to Greece! January 31 will be our last day.” - Omega Ouzeri

The bright open spaces, Greek wine, food with a definitive Mediterranean flare, and friendly owners' faces inside Omega Ouzeri will not be forgotten any time soon.

First-time patrons and Restaurant Week geeks have oohed and ahhed over the restaurant’s specialties like shared plates, baklava, grilled octopus, Dolmathes (rice, currants, pine nuts, fresh herbs, and lemon yogurt), and olive oil martinis.

Don't worry, you can still get grilled octupus in Seattle at restaurants like List in Beltown and Shaker + Spear.

After several years of Omega Ouzeri being in the heart of Capitol Hill’s unique multicultural blend of eateries, owners Thomas Soukakos and Rebecca Soukakos are packing up their bags and moving abroad for retirement. Greece, here they come!

“I'm hanging up my apron and moving to Greece.” - Thomas Soukakos

O.O. was once named among Seattle’s best restaurants by the Seattle Met, and it even made my list of the best places to go on a date. I am sad to see it go, but as with a lot of my favorite restaurants in Washington, favorites come and favorites close!

“I just made a reservation for the 31st. We were there to see it open, and we'll be there to say goodbye.” - Anna-Stina Lagerquist
