**Opening the door for truckers to go “off the clock” for up to three hours when faced with delays in loading or unloading, new proposed rules on hours of service regulations were welcomed by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association.

The Department of Transportation published he proposed changes last week.

One change would allow one off-duty break of at least 30 minutes, but not more than three hours, that would pause a truck driver’s 14-hour driving window, provided the driver takes 10 consecutive hours off-duty at the end of the shift.

**USDA's latest analysis of global food security estimates the world's food-insecure population will fall from 19.3% this year to 9.2% by 2029 as incomes rise and food prices fall.

According to agrimarketing.com, there are an estimated 728 million people who are food insecure this year, but is expected to fall to 399 million over the next 10 years.

Those numbers mark improvements from last year's annual assessment, when USDA estimated that there 21.1% of the global population was food-insecure in 2018.

**Interest from foodservice operators is growing for fresh-cut slices of the genetically engineered non-browning Arctic apple.

Thepacker.com reports, Summerland, BC-based Okanogan Specialty Fruits exhibited the fresh-cut slices for the first time at the Produce Marketing Association’s Foodservice Conference and Expo last month in Monterey, California.

The company says Arctic apples have a 28-day shelf life, compared to the 18-to-21-day average.
