With items like candles in pumpkins, decorative fire elements and even lights, there are a lot of items this Halloween to give the Washington State Fire Marshal a fright. Here are a few things you need to consider before decorating.

If you can, opt for a halloween costume that's flame resistant.

Try to have costumes that aren't dragging or overly flowing as all it takes is a quick gust of wind to put it in a fire.

I know fire is warm in a chilly autumn evening, but have your kids stay away from open flames and heat. That also goes for decorations. Especially bales of hay.

If you're tricking or treating, carry a flashlight - even in a well-lit neighborhood.
