UPDATE:

EA Sports has released a statement following the backlash from Big Sean and YG for removing Sean's mention of football player Colin Kaepernick's name from his verse on "Big Bank" in the video game Madden NFL 19. ESPN Sports Business Reporter Darren Rovell has shared the statement in a post on Twitter.

The statement reads: "We made an unfortunate mistake with our Madden NFL soundtrack. Members of our team misunderstood the fact that while we don't have rights to include Colin Kaepernick in the game, this doesn't affect soundtracks. We messed up, and the edit should never have happened. We will make it right, with an update to Madden NFL 19 on August 6 that will include the reference again. We meant no disrespect, and we apologize to Colin, to YG and Big Sean, to the NFL, to all of their fans and our players for this mistake."

ORIGINAL STORY:

Soon, the folks at EA Sports will unleash Madden NFL 19, the latest entry in their storied NFL video game franchise. While fans will definitely be happy to have the new game in their palms, a few folks who have played the game noticed something quite peculiar about the soundtrack: Big Sean's Colin Kaepernick name-drop was removed from "Big Bank," which is YG's new single featuring Sean Don, Nicki Minaj and 2 Chainz.

In the original lyrics, Sean raps, "Feed me to the wolves, now I lead the pack and shit/You boys all cap, I'm more Colin Kaepernick." In the Madden NFL 19 version, the name of Kaepernick is censored. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback famously protested the National Anthem by kneeling during its ceremonial playing before NFL games.

After the switch-up was revealed, Twitter had a lot to say about the matter. Now, so has Big Sean, who spoke out against the switch on the social media platform.

"It’s disappointing and appalling @NFL & @EA took @Kaepernick7’s name out of my verse on Big Bank for Madden 19, like it was a curse word. When he's not a curse, he's a gift! Nobody from my team approved any of this," the rapper tweeted.

Shortly after Sean posted his tweet, which has since been retweeted over 21,000 times, Kaep himself responded with a retweet and a thank you: "Much love brother! Thank you for having my back!✊🏾"

At around the same time Kaep responded to Sean's tweet, YG left a comment under Bleacher Report's IG post documenting the censorship. The Compton rapper's comment appears to be a condemning one. "On my daughter. They ain't run that by me. Thats kold," he wrote.
