Boiler Fails at Yakima Regional Medical Center, Cutting Off Main Heat

With temperatures barely in double digits, the heat is on the fritz at Yakima Regional Medical and Cardiac Center.

Inpatient care is continuing as workers try to repair the boiler, which failed early Friday morning, according to a statement from Regional. Elective surgeries, however, are being rescheduled.

A hospital spokesperson says no patients are being evacuated.

"Internal building temperatures are being actively monitored and we are providing extra blankets and other resources to support patient comfort until the system is restored," the hospital's official statement said. "We appreciate the patience and understanding of our patients and employees as we work through these repairs."

Tennessee-based Community Health Systems Inc., which owns the 214-bed hospital, signed an agreement just last month to sell the facility to Sunnyside Community Hospital & Clinics for about $45 million.
