It looks like the beef between Cardi B and Nicki Minaj might stem from the Cardi-Future collab that was supposed to be, but never was. According to Hollywood Unlocked's Jason Lee, Migos were only added to Bardi's Invasion of Privacy single, "Drip," after Nicki told Hendrix to jump off the track—or be removed from their joint NickiHndrxx Tour.

“Future was [originally] on the track with Cardi,” Lee said on the show. “Migos jumped on because Future had to jump off.” Future didn't appear on the song, but he ended up hopping off the NickiHndrxx Tour anyway.

If you recall, building tensions between Cardi and Nicki exploded when Bardi allegedly tried to attack the Young Money MC at Harper's Baazar's Icons Party during 2018 New York Fashion Week. In an Instagram post she uploaded shortly thereafter, Cardi seemingly claimed that Nicki's alleged attempts to prevent her from making money—among other things—were the reason for the incident.

“I let you attempt to stop my bags, fuck up the way I eat,” Cardi wrote in the post, which almost everyone believes was directed at Nicki. “You’ve threaten [sic] other artists in the industry, told them if they work with me you’ll stop fuckin with them.”

Based on Lee's report, Future could be one artist Cardi belives Nicki prevented from working with her.

In another point that possibly corroborates Lee's claim, a Future-featuring version of "Drip," which also included Migos, Young Thug and Hoodrich Pablo Juan, surfaced back in July. A reference track with Future leaked the day Lee made his report.
