It’s Cheryl’s Fault That the Baby’s Name Is Bear
And now we know: "Live Life Now" chanteuse Cheryl Ann Tweedy Cole Fernandez-Versini Payne is the one who picked the name "Bear" for her baby boy with Liam Payne, who initially rejected the idea before deciding to — wait for it — grin and bear it.
The One Direction member-turned-solo star, who's about to break out with his debut single "Strip That Down (feat. Quavo)" this Friday (May 19), admitted as much during a Total Access interview.
"It was like an internal battle. I wanted a more traditional name and she wanted a name that was more unusual. And the reason she chose Bear in the end was because Bear is a name that when you leave a room, you won't forget," he said of his beloved trained street dancer's decision.
"And I like that," he convincingly added.
"And you know what? Now he is Bear. When I look at him, he's just Bear. At first, I'll be honest with you, I wasn't really having it. I was like, ‘I'm not really sure. I don't really understand.' Now I look at him and he's Bear."
Mmhmm.
"You become your name as you get older anyway," he continued to reason, sounding perfectly content with the decision and not at all as though he's still in the process of convincing himself that his son shares a name with a carnivorous mammal known for stealing picnic baskets from campers.
When she's not busy coming up with unusual names for babies, the Girls Aloud icon is mercifully getting back in the studio to work on her follow-up to 2014's Only Human, reportedly set to save pop in early 2018.
We can bearly wait.
