Fall Out Boy Borrow From Britney for Pop-Frankenstein Single ‘Young + Menace’
FOB, whose most recent album dropped in 2015, announced their seventh LP today (April 27), which is slated for a September release. And the band coupled the good news with the release of "Young and Menace," a pop-Frankenstein of sorts that includes a mention of "Oops!...I Did it Again" so conspicuous you'll be sure Y2K is back for a second round.
"I've lived so much life, lived so much life / I think that god is gonna have to kill me twice," Patrick Stump menacingly croons in a pre-chorus that swells into reckless bombast. And the chorus' evolution features more swirling synth and effects than you'll know what to do with.
Bassist Pete Wentz tweeted that the corresponding video — which follows a troubled child in a fantasy land inhabited by mascot-looking creatures — is emblematic of true M A N I A.
"It’s hard to rationalize rage – it’s hard to quantify anxiety...this song does neither, it embraces the wave," he noted.
