Update (Jan. 25, 9:33 p.m.): A rep from Future's camp has told XXL that Michael Tanner Phillips is a former bodyguard of the ATL star. In 2011, Tanner parted ways with Future as his bodyguard. Future offered his condolences about the situation via Twitter.

Original Story: Future received some sad news today as one of his bodyguards was shot and killed in his home in Jonesboro, Ga. around 1:30 p.m. Fox 5 Atlanta identified the victim as 27-year-old Michael Tanner Phillips. His wife was reportedly at home when the shooting occurred.

"Some of the neighbors heard some arguing and some gunshots. We're still interviewing some of them to try and piece together everything at this time," said Lieutenant Frank Thomas of the Clayton County Police Department.

There isn't a ton of details regard the case as of right now but the gunman is still at large after fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Phillips and his wife were expecting a new child and recently threw a baby shower. We reached out to Future's rep and will update when more information is available.

This news just comes a day after Future was spotted having a great time at the NFC Championship Game where the Carolina Panthers demolished the Arizona Cardinals to advance to Super Bowl 50. A picture of Jeezy, likely NFL MVP and Panthers Quarterback Cam Newton plus Future was taken right before the game. Once the photo got on the web, the picture of the three superstars went viral (see below). A little over a week ago the Freebandz boss released his new 13-track mixtape titled Purple Reign that was executive produced by DJ Esco and Metro Boomin.

Other than the news today, the major hardship in Future's life is his custody battle with his ex-fiancee Ciara. He recently went off about the inability to see his child, whom he refers to as “babyfuture.”
