Ichiro’s Final Curtain Call Will Give You Chills [VIDEO]
Before the second and final game of the series between the Seattle Mariners and Oakland A's, Ichiro Suzuki announced that he would be retiring from playing baseball at the conclusion of the game that the M's eventually won in 12 innings, 5-4.
After the game ended, the sold-out Tokyo Dome crowd cheered wildly for Japan's favorite son to take one last curtain call. What ensued was a chaotic, six-minute lap around the entire field where Ichiro waved and acknowledged the delirious throng. After wading through a gaggle of photographers and camerapeople, Suzuki eventually went out to second base - virtually dead center of the domed stadium - to escape the media.
The thunderous response (approximately 5:15 mark) was the zenith of an amazing career that forever changed the game of baseball in two countries.
