A blend of Basque Northern Spain-style cuisine and American-style staples with breakfast, lunch, appetizer, soup, and salad entrees. They have cocktails available with every meal. They boast the “best breakfast in Bakersfield.”

Serving home-style chili since 1946, this restaurant calls itself “Burbank’s Favorite Chili.” Chili John’s has three toppings you can choose with your beef, chicken, or vegetarian chili bowl: spaghetti, rice, or beans. They serve more than chili, though. You can order sloppy joe’s, tuna salad sandwiches, chili fries, chili dogs, tater tots, sweet potato fries, onion rings, and of course, chili by the bowl. For dessert, you can order whole lemon, pineapple, and chocolate mud pies.
WHAT GUY FIERI LIKES TO TRY: The midwestern-style chili.
3 . Fountain Valley
Paul’s Coffee Shop
16947 Bushard St, Fountain Valley
Featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, Episode 9, Season 12
You can definitely tell a military veteran owns this intimate diner establishment, as the walls are decorated in copious amounts of memorabilia, photos, and the stainless-steel food tray your meal gets served on (if you order the S.O.S. meal).
WHAT GUY FIERI LIKES TO TRY: The S.O.S. house special, which is “hamburger gravy on scrambled eggs, white toast, and potatoes.”

Starling Diner
4114 E 3rd St, Long Beach
Featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives, Episode 3, Season 20
This diner had me when I saw they were described as having the best brunch in Long Beach and for having a vibe that is “quirky and snappy.” With menu items like “Blue Crab Scrambled Eggs” and “Breakfast Bruschetta”, I am definitely putting this place on my Must-Eat list!

They have bagels on the side, pastrami, roast beef, corned beef, tuna, turkey, chicken, French dip, and brisket sandwiches, plus burgers, “impossible” burgers, liverwurst, plus soups and salads. If you’re feeling frisky, order the Matzah Ball soup or something off the appetizer menu like gefilte fish, stuffed cabbage, chopped liver, and a potato and meat “Stuffed Kishka” sausage. The bakery is a whole other delicious ball game!
