Driving Drunk? Yakima Police Urge You To Plan Ahead This Holiday
Holiday speed and DUI emphasis patrols continue in the city of Yakima. Yakima Police Capt. Jay Seely says the patrols are important all the time to keep people safe but they take on extra meaning during the holidays when some people drink and drive.
IF YOU PLAN TO PARTY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON GET A DESIGNATED DRIVER
He urges people to plan ahead this Christmas season by having a designated driver. Statewide, more than 75 local law enforcement agencies are adding dedicated patrols. The patrols involve deputies from the Yakima County Sheriff's Office, Troopers from the state patrol and Officers from the Yakima Police Department.

YOU CAN HELP POLICE BUT BE CAREFUL
Local and state authorities are hoping they'll get some help this holiday season. They say if you call 9-1-1 to report an impaired driver the dispatcher will ask for the make and model of the car, license plate number, route and direction, and, if possible, a description of the driver. But they say never get to close or do something that could put you in danger.
SPEED PATROLS CONTINUE ALONG WITH THE DUI PATROLS
During the last week of speed patrols in Yakima Officers made a total of 856 traffic stops and issued 291 citations. They arrested 12 drivers for DUI and investigated 22 collisions. 12 of the collisions were the result of drivers not stopping for a red light. Officers investigated 13 red light crashes the week before.
The patrols continue today.
