Former Yakima Police Officer Kills Two As Nationwide Manhunt Continues
A nationwide manhunt is underway for a former Yakima Police Officer who authorities say shot two people and took his child Monday in West Richland.
THE FORMER OFFICER WAS SET TO GO TO TRIAL THIS WEEK ON RAPE CHARGES
40-year-old Elias Huizar served in the Yakima Police Department from 2013-2022 and was charged with the sexual assault of a teen back in February. It's not known if the killings are connected to the case. Washington State Patrol Troopers say Troopers says the two victims were the man's ex-wife and girlfriend.
HUIZAR SHOT HIS EX-WIFE AS SHE WAS LEAVING THE SCHOOL FOR THE DAY
West Richland Police say the first shooting happened at about 3:23 pm outside of William Wiley Elementary School Monday just as school was over for the day. Police say Huizar shot his ex-wife multiple times. She died at the scene.
ANOTHER VICTIM WAS FOUND BELIEVE TO BE HIS YOUNG GIRLFRIEND
Shortly after the shooting police served a search warrant at his home and found the second victim, believed to be Huizar's girlfriend dead at the home.
THE AMBER ALERT WAS ISSUED FOR HUIZAR'S CHILD WHO IS WITH HIM
An Amber Alert was issued Monday night for the abduction of one-year-old Roman Huizar who is believed to be with his father.
Authorities believe he's driving a silver 2009 Toyota Corolla with a Washington license plate #CBZ4745. They say they believe he's driving to Mexico. Police in West Richland are working closely with Police in Yakima, the Washington State Patrol, FBI and U.S. Marshals Service.
