
Protect Your Food: Free PFAS Testing for East Selah Residents Raising Animals
It's no secret that residents in East Selah are dealing with a high concentration of PFAS in drinking water. If you live in that area the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is offering free PFAS home-raised egg and meat testing to residents.
YOU NEED TO MEET CERTAIN CRITERIA
According to a news release from the Yakima Health District to qualify for the free testing you must live in East Selah and have PFAS chemicals in your water higher than at least one of following values:
o PFOS: 4 ppt or ng/L
o PFOA: 4 ppt or ng/L
o PFHxS: 10 ppt or ng/L
o PFNA: 10 ppt or ng/L
• Use the contaminated water to raise animals or eggs at home for themselves, their family, or friends to eat (not commercial production).

FREE PICKUP FROM YOUR HOME
After you contact the Washington State Department of Health they'll pick up the eggs and meat to send in for testing. You'll get the full test results from the department along with an "individual health consultation with DOH staff that includes guidance on safe consumption of your products."

STILL MONITORING A CASE OF AVIAN FLU
As the department of health helps people in East Selah the Yakima Health District continue to monitor a case of avian influenza in a local backyard flock of chickens. Yakima Health District officials say they're contacting people with exposure to avian influenza infected birds to monitor for symptoms as a precautionary measure. Health officials aren't reporting any human cases of avian influenza in the area.
