Pinwheels in Yakima Friday To Represent Abused Children

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and the Washington Association of Child Advocate Programs will place a bunch of pinwheels in Yakima on Friday. The pinwheels are part of the pinwheel project to bring attention to the month. Since 2008 the pinwheel has been established nationwide as the symbol of child abuse prevention.

THE HUNDREDS OF PINWHEELS WILL REPRESENT THE JOY OF CHILDREN

Association officials say the pinwheel represents playfulness, joy, and childhood. 389 pinwheels will be placed in the lawn in front of Yakima County Juvenile Court on Friday from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

HUNDREDS OF PINWHEELS WILL REPRESENT ABUSED CHILDREN IN YAKIMA

A press release says each pinwheel represents a "child in the Yakima County Dependency system because of child abuse or neglect within our county." Association officials say the Yakima County Child Advocate/Guardian Ad Litem Program is a "beacon of hope for children in the dependency system. The event is an opportunity for the community to learn more about Yakima County’s child advocate program and our work to protect children and reunite families of our community.:

FRIDAY IS A SPECIAL DAY AT JUVENILE COURT

The event happens on Yakima County Juvenile Court adoption hearing day when joyful families officially adopt foster children. It's expected to highlight the community need for child advocacy programs and how important they are to Yakima.
It's set to be held on Friday, April 21, from 3:30 pm 5:00 pm at the Yakima County Juvenile Court building located at 1728 Jerome Avenue.
The association and the court are holding an open house on the day as well.
