The Rotary Marketplace in Downtown Yakima Is Getting a Facelift

Locals driving past the Rotary Marketplace on Yakima Avenue are scratching their heads wondering what the heck is going on to the pavillion.

There is a honeycomb art element being added to the exterior of the building that's mostly known as the place for the downtown Yakima Farmers Market on Sundays and special holiday events throughout the year, like the Marketplace Monster Mash trick or treat event each Halloween.

Construction crews were spotted this afternoon working on adding some of the new elements.

We can expect this art installation to brighten up Yakima Avenue at night, as it will be filled with LED lights.

The feature was inspired by "the people, landscapes, and agricultural systems,", says the Yakima Rotary Trust on their Facebook page. The honeycomb shape was chosen by the artist to reflect the cooperation and resilience, environment, and agricultural influence of the Yakima community.
