WHAT IS HADESTOWN ABOUT?
Imagine a Greek mythical love story--"where a song can change your fate"--set in the bustling, noisy, and party town of old-town New Orleans--that's what you can expect to see in Hadestown.
Hades is the Greek god of hell (the underworld) and he falls in love with the beautiful Persephone and she becomes his wife. Meanwhile, there is the Greek god Orpheus and his wife, Eurydice.
Without giving the entire story away, what I can tell you is that Hadestown is a love story filled with New Orleans-style jazz, rhythm, and blues. Music and the human spirit are the centerpieces of this play.
In 2019, Hadestown took home the Tony awards for Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and the entire soundtrack won for Best Original Score.
The cast and crew of Hadestown accept the award for Best Musical onstage during the 2019 Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall on June 9, 2019, in New York City
Hadestown has also won a Grammy (Best Musical Theater Album).
Hadestown comes to the Capitol Theatre on Thursday, December 19th and Friday, December 20th. Both showings are at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for Hadestown start at $25 for the cheap seats (FYI: A $4 patron service fee is added to all tickets purchased online at captioltheatre.org).
