Here’s your chance to get on the Lianne La Havas bandwagon before she becomes a superstar. The London singer-songwriter, who has already opened for Bon Iver and will hit the road with John Legend in the fall, has released a new music video for ‘Forget’ that premieres today exclusively on PopCrush (and our sister site diffuser.fm) on the performer’s 23rd birthday.

La Havas explained in a video blog that the song was inspired by a former flame who is also a musician. “‘Forget’ is my musical response to the request of my ex-boyfriend for me to sing on one of his songs after he’d broken my heart and dumped me,” she said.

The video picks up on that theme by depicting La Havas leaving behind a guitar-playing loser. While she struts down the sidewalk with a purposeful stride, the guy keeps showing up everywhere to embarrass himself by dropping his instrument and getting water tossed on him. “Forget all the words that let you break my heart / Forget that I’m the person tearing you apart,” she sings.

‘Forget’ appears on La Havas’ debut album ‘Is Your Love Big Enough?,’ which reached the Top 5 in the U.K. and is available now on iTunes. The record combines folk, jazz, soul and other various musical styles she listened to growing up as the daughter of a Jamaican mother and a Greek father.

Before opening for Legend, La Havas will headline her own show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on Sept. 11. The singer already has one high-profile fan in Stevie Wonder, who showed up to meet her at an L.A. gig.
