Normani has been spilling details about her solo album since pretty much the second Fifth Harmony announced their official hiatus, but she dropped some especially big teasers during a recent interview with The Fader.

"I’m able to go to the studio now and write about ideas that actually mean something to me," she explained of her new sound, described by Fader writer Muna Mire as dreamy, instrument-heavy R&B. "I am going back to the music that I grew up with that really inspires me. I get to pull from that and incorporate those sounds into this project."

She also made a subtle dig seemingly directed at those behind 5H, continuing, "It’s not like somebody else sitting in a chair over at the label has a set idea as to who these girls are going to be and us having to go along with that.”

In addition to working with Missy Elliott — a partnership she revealed in April — Normani said she recently collaborated with Stargate, the Norwegian production duo behind hits like Selena Gomez's "Same Old Love" and 5H's "Work from Home," and is next set to hit the studio with The Dream, Jude Demorest, London on Da Track, DJ Mustard, Priscilla Renea, and Ester Dean, among others. No confirmation yet on if that list could include Nicki Minaj.

And finally, Normani brushed off the internet's decision to dub her the second coming of Beyoncé.

"It’s flattering, but I definitely have room to grow and improve," she said. "I want to work for my spot. It’s not fair that I’m the 'next Beyoncé' just yet. But I hope to become that.”

A release date and title for Normani's album have yet to be announced.
