Offset Compares New Anti-Abortion Laws to Slavery

The new anti-abortion laws put into place in states like Georgia and Alabama have Offset upset. On Saturday (May 18), he hopped on Twitter to vent about it.

"New laws is slavory [sic]," he posted. "To force a rape victim to keep a child is SLAVORY IM NOT PROUD TO SAY IM FROM AMERICA!!!"

In a follow-up post he added, "I miss spelled the word from anger sorry yal smh."

The Migos member isn't the only one to express his disdain of the new laws. Artists like Lupe Fiasco, Waka Flocka Flame and more have all hopped on social media to offer their thoughts.

Georgia recently put into place a fetal heartbeat bill, which bans abortion after a heartbeat is detected. The Alabama edict, which was passed earlier this month, is more strict. Titled HB 314, it restricts doctors from performing any abortion procedures within state line. If caught, doctors can be charged and face up to 99 years in prison. Cases when the unborn child is a dire health risk for the mother, ectopic pregnancies and if the "unborn child has a lethal anomaly" are the only exceptions, which means women who are victims of rape have no choice other than to have the child, under the new law.

"I think abortion is the decision of the mother," Lupe wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday (May 16). "I think to value the quantity of life over the quality of life is misguided. I think the state should play a role but should remain neutral. I think if your not going to take care of a child then you should not have one but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to kill it. I think you should use contraception at all times unless you are planning to have a child. I think rapists should summarily be put to death."
