Patti LuPone Destroys Madonna in Epic ‘WWHL’ Clip, Calls Her a ‘Movie Killer’
For the many roles she's assumed on stage, Patti LuPone will evidently not be playing the part of diplomat anytime soon.
On last night's (May 9) Watch What Happens Live, a caller asked LuPone what she thought of Madonna's performance in 1996 film Evita, a role LuPone, herself, originated in 1979 on Broadway. After very briefly outlining the performers' only interaction together (evidently, Madonna could only think to point out that she was taller than LuPone when they met), the Tony-winner went in on Madonna.
“I saw 'Buenos Aires' and thought it was a piece of s---,” LuPone starkly observed. “Madonna is a movie killer. She’s dead behind the eyes. She couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag. She should not be on film or on stage. She’s a wonderful performer for what she does, but she is not an actress.”
And viewers of the show were bowled over. One wrote "Patti Lupone just threw the most epic shade at Madonna I have ever heard and I am living!" on Twitter while another observed "Patti LuPone shading and dragging Madonna on @BravoWWHL is my new favorite feud."
