The Yakima County Public Services Planning Division will host two open houses on March 18 and 19 to take comments on the county’s update and validation of the Visioning Goals, the foundation of the County’s comprehensive land-use plan.

The first open house will be held Wednesday, March 18 at the Selah Civic Center; the second on Thursday, March 19, at the Zillah Civic Center. Both drop-in events begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m.

Open house participants will be invited to review and provide feedback on the results of a community survey, which asked participants to determine if the county’s original 1992 visioning goals were still relevant. Those surveyed were also invited to modify existing goals or add new goals. More than 1,150 people participated in the survey. Their responses were compiled and, after review and discussion by the Yakima County Planning Commission, are being released to the public for comment.

“This is the beginning of many planning actions we anticipate in updating our plan,” stated Marla Powers, Yakima County Senior Project Planner. “The comprehensive plan update is a complex and multi-jurisdictional project requiring extensive public involvement. We expect to take full advantage of the time allotted to us and to complete it on time.”

After the open houses, the Yakima County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on this topic on Wednesday, April 8, 2015.
