Are you a high school artist living in the 4th Congressional District? Your congressman is going to give you a chance to show your stuff!

Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., has announced the start of the 2015 Congressional Art Competition for the 4th District.

“The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity to showcase the creativity of Central Washington’s young people,” Newhouse said. “I encourage every high school student to participate, and I look forward to seeing the entries.”

All artwork must be submitted by May 1 to Newhouse's Yakima or Richland District offices. Participants should call to schedule a time for artwork to be dropped off.

(The Yakima office is at 402 E. Yakima Ave., Suite 135)

On May 4, the entries will be displayed in an art show at Washington State University-Tri Cities in the Consolidated Information Center from 6-9 p.m. The winning entry will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol, and this year’s winner will visit Washington, D.C., to attend a reception hosted by the Congressional Institute.

The winner of the competition will also receive two tickets (for the student and a guardian) from Southwest Airlines to fly to Washington, D.C., and take part in viewing their art in the exhibition.
